With medical training from the University of Benin in Nigeria, residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, and fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Dr. Umugbe brings extensive clinical experience to his work. He previously served as President of the House Staff at Howard University Hospital and continues to supervise residents and advanced practice clinicians in county settings.
His passion for psychiatry began during his early exposure to mental health care while working as a registered nurse. He witnessed firsthand how compassionate psychiatric treatment can restore hope and transform lives. He is especially committed to early intervention in children and adolescents, recognizing its lasting positive impact on individuals, families, and society.
Dr. Umugbe’s goal is to improve each patient’s functional ability, helping them enhance emotional well-being, physical health, and overall quality of life. Care is collaborative, and families are involved in treatment when appropriate.
